2024 Federal Women’s Conference: safety and respect

The 2024 AEU Federal Women’s Conference will focus on systemic gendered violence in education. Open to AEU women members, the event will be held on 15–16 November in Melbourne. EOIs are due by 23 September.

AEU women have a proud history of building strong union structures and cultures for women. When AEU women come together, we are a powerful force for change.

The 2024 AEU Federal Women’s Conference will bring women together to recommit and build on this legacy. The AEU is committed to education workplaces being safe and respectful for all women. The purpose of this year’s conference will be to explore the issue of systemic and institutionalised gendered violence and misogyny in education. The conference will not solely be on education about the problem, as this risks circling on the issue, but doing nothing to change it. The conference will be a space for women teachers and educators from across Australia to come together, to build solidarity and collaborate on strategy and solutions: how women can organise to win safe and respected workplaces.

Given the complexity of the topic, there will be a plan for safety before, during and after the event and delegates will be encouraged to practise self-care as needed.
