While we remain concerned that the legislation removes guaranteed representation for teachers, parents, principals and Aboriginal education expertise from the new board, the AEU NT welcomes two amendments the CLP Government made to the Bill, including an important change sought by the AEU NT requiring any decision to cancel or suspend a teacher’s registration to be made by the full board. This change was achieved thanks to the collective pressure applied by our members through our petition and in the media.
We thank the more than 1,000 teachers and community members who signed the joint AEU NT and IEU-QNT petition, which was tabled in Parliament by Opposition Leader and AEU member Selena Uibo.
