Coming up in May: AEU NT Branch Conference & 50 Year Anniversary Celebrations!

This conference is not just about reflecting on the past—it’s about shaping the future of our union together. Be part of the conversation. Be part of the history.

Education conference presentation in Northern Territory.

The AEU NT Branch Conference will be held from 3–4 May 2025, providing members with the opportunity to shape union policy and priorities. Delegates will debate and vote on motions that will guide the union’s advocacy and strategic direction.

This year’s conference will also serve as the centrepiece of our 50-year celebrations, marking five decades of teacher unionism in the Northern Territory. Since its formation in 1974, the union has fought for better conditions, fair pay, and a stronger public education system. To honour this legacy, we will host a special Anniversary Reception on Friday evening, featuring guest speakers and a historic photo presentation. Regional celebrations will also be held to ensure all members can take part in this important milestone.

All delegate notifications and motion submissions are due by Friday, 21 March (Week 8, Term 1)

If your sub-branch has not yet appointed delegates, we encourage you to meet as soon as possible. While notifying us of delegates via a sub-branch return is encouraged, this does not count as registration—all delegates must complete the Conference Registration Form to attend.

Sub-branches can submit motions on workplace conditions, education policy, and other key issues using the Conference Motion Submission Form. To review the progress of previously passed motions contact your Sub-Branch Rep or the Organiser to receive a link to our live Decision Progress Report.

Encouraging Aboriginal Representation

In line with the conference decision passed in 2023, sub-branches are encouraged to nominate Aboriginal members for observer positions at the conference. This initiative aims to strengthen Aboriginal representation within the union and ensure diverse perspectives are included in our discussions. Observer positions provide an opportunity for Aboriginal members to engage with conference proceedings, learn about union decision-making processes, and contribute to shaping the future of our advocacy. If your sub-branch is interested in nominating an Aboriginal member for an observer position, please contact the AEU NT office for further details.
