E2026/59 AEU Northern Territory – Election for Branch Executive roles

These are scheduled elections for Branch Executive offices for a two-year term of office 2027-2028. Any current financial member including ALL groups of educators can stand to be on the AEU NT Executive for these roles nominated by two other financial members. These are important roles where you have the opportunity to represent all members and specific member groups, further the union's policy aims and participate in governance, planning and organising activities. Please read the guidance around the nomination process carefully, also noting the timelines listed.

Branch Executive Roles:

• Branch President (paid role)
• Vice-President – General Division (voluntary role)
• Vice-President – TAFE Division (voluntary role)
• Treasurer (voluntary role)
• Women’s Officer (voluntary role)
• Executive Councillor representing Indigenous teachers and Indigenous education
workers in schools and education institutions (voluntary role)

The time commitment needed for being on Branch Executive consists of ten days throughout the year in face to face meetings, (these are each of two days’ duration and include one or two days of our annual Branch Conference). In addition, there are eight or nine half day online meetings over the year. The AEU NT has standing arrangements with the DET under our EA, clause 24.10, to have leave approved for Executive meetings and this is not deducted from any of your other types of leave. Travel and other expenses are covered if you usually work in a remote or regional community.

Members elected to Branch Executive will also need to complete an online mandatory financial training for officers course so they understand their duties under the Fair Work (Registered Organisations) Act 2009. The course cost will be met by the AEU NT.

For further information on the roles, please contact Rachael Metcalfe, the Branch Secretary secretary@aeunt.org.au or call (08) 8948 5399.
