We are sad to announce that Bridget O’Dwyer and Jengis Osman have both finished up with the AEU NT.
Bridget has been with us for two years as Project Officer (Membership), and during that time, she made significant contributions to the strength of the union. Her efforts focused on crucial areas such as membership recruitment, sub-branch visits, and rep training. Through her dedication to building and supporting our sub-branch network, Bridget became well-known for her commitment to ensuring that reps across the Northern Territory felt supported and empowered to lead in their roles. Her work played an instrumental role in growing the union’s reach and fostering a strong sense of community among members.
Jengis, though only in the role of Project Officer (Industrial) for a brief period, had a strong impact on the AEU NT and its members. He played a pivotal role in the negotiations for the Educators’ Agreement, working to ensure that the voices and concerns of our members were heard and addressed at the bargaining table. He also provided crucial support to individual members on a wide range of industrial matters, representing them in complex cases, including before the Fair Work Commission. His ability to navigate the complexities of industrial relations while ensuring that our members’ rights were protected will be missed.
We sincerely thank both Bridget and Jengis for their hard work, dedication, and the lasting impact they’ve made on the AEU NT, and we wish them all the best in their future endeavours.
While it is always difficult to say goodbye, we are excited to introduce two new Organisers who have joined our team to continue the important work of supporting and growing our union.
Julie Fraser joined the AEU NT as an Organiser on 26th August, bringing with her 16 years of full-time teaching experience, particularly in remote areas of the Northern Territory, including Central Australia and the Top End. Julie’s deep understanding of the unique challenges faced by educators in these regions equips her with invaluable insights that will be critical in her work advocating for members. Having been a committed union member since 1993, Julie is no stranger to unionism. She previously worked as the NT Organiser for the Australian Services Union, where she successfully increased membership and built a strong network of active Workplace Representatives. Rep training has always been one of Julie’s top priorities, and she is eager to bring that focus to her role at the AEU NT. Since joining, Julie has hit the ground running, already visiting schools, meeting members, and working with sub-branch reps to organise training for Term 4 across Darwin, Nhulunbuy, and Alice Springs. If you are interested in becoming a rep or learning more about your sub-branch, you can contact Julie at [email protected].
Carly Philips will be joining the AEU NT team as an Organiser on 6th November. Carly has been a passionate and committed member of the AEU NT since 2012, actively engaging in union work and holding leadership roles within the union. Over the years, Carly has served as Executive Representative for the Alice Springs Region and as Sub-Branch President at both Centralian Middle School and Palmerston Senior College. She has been deeply involved in enterprise agreement negotiations and has played a key role in recruiting new members to the union. Carly is known for her unwavering commitment to unionism and has been instrumental in leading successful campaigns such as the ‘I Give a Gonski’ initiative. With her extensive experience and passion for representing and empowering educators, Carly is well-positioned to help drive the growth of the AEU NT and support our members in their ongoing efforts to improve working conditions and education standards across the Territory. You will be able to contact her at [email protected] once she commences.
With Julie already working closely with reps and Carly set to join soon, we look forward to continuing to provide our members with the high level of support and representation they deserve. We are confident that these new additions to our team will help strengthen the union and ensure that we remain a powerful voice for educators across the Northern Territory.
