The NT Government’s offer for a new NTPS General Agreement sells our school support staff short. It locks in pay that falls behind the cost of living, ignores the growing problem of role-creep, and risks losing the very people who keep our schools safe, organised, and supportive for students. We are calling on every AO to vote NO so we can win an agreement that genuinely values and retains our staff.

VOTE NO
Why should every AO vote NO?
This offer fails to meet our core claims: wages that keep up with the cost of living, fair allowances, and measures that address the growing level of responsibility being heaped on school support staff due to the teacher shortage. Voting NO is how we tell the government to come back with something better.
Are School Council employees covered by this Agreement?
Some schools employ staff directly through their School Council. Even though they may do a similar role to an AO, they are not covered by the NTPS General Agreement, and unfortunately will not be able to vote in the ballot. These staff members are still important. We are currently investigating ways we can support them to achieve more secure conditions.
What can teachers do to help?
Teachers do not get a vote in this ballot, but you can make a big difference. Talk with AO staff at your school about what’s at stake, share union flyers and FAQs, and check that everyone knows how to vote. Publicly acknowledge the value of AO staff in meetings, help create time and space for them to have these conversations, and encourage them to stand together. The stronger the NO vote, the stronger our hand in winning a fair deal.
Keep an eye out for opportunities to participate in Solidarity actions – coming soon!
How do I vote?
The vote will be run online by a company called Vero. On 12 September 2025, you’ll receive an email at your @education.nt.gov.au address with a unique login link and instructions to cast your confidential vote. You’ll need to use the login details provided in that email to access the voting portal and submit your choice.
If you’d prefer to receive the ballot at a personal email (or you won’t have access to your NTPS inbox during the voting period), you must update your details with Vero by contacting Support@verovoting.com.au or calling 1300 702 898.
How can I help an AO who struggles with English, technology, or doesn’t have a device?
Start with a conversation. Make sure they’ve received the ballot email and know what it’s about. You can explain why we’re asking AOs to vote NO, and you can sit with them to help open the email, log into the voting portal, or use your device if they don’t have one.
However the vote itself must be theirs. You shouldn’t click for them or make the choice on their behalf. The ballot is confidential.
How do I request additional information or resources to share with my colleagues?
Ask your rep or organisier or click the “Make an Enquiry” Button to let the office know what you need. We will do our best to accommodate as many requests as possible. All questions and resources will be posted here for collective use. So check back regularly!
